‘Sons of Anarchy’ creator teams with wife, star Katey Sagal for comedy

Kurt Sutter looks to already be putting his new development deal with FX to good use; after all, a new dark comedy executive-produced by him and potentially starring his wife (and “Sons of Anarchy” actress) Katey Sagal has now been ordered for at least a pilot script.

The pilot itself here has a rather interesting name: “Diva. Clown. Killer.” As for the story, it revolves mostly around a washed-up rock star (presumably played by Sagal), her son who works as a party clown for children, and someone who is apparently an assassin. On the surface, this story really doesn’t make any sense at all; but at this point, we would be completely and utterly foolish to doubt the talents of Sutter after what he has been able to put on the small screen thus far.

Now, this new series does raise a pretty obvious question: does this new show mean that Sagal’s days on “Sons of Anarchy” are numbered? Not necessarily. If the episode count and scheduling works out, she could be able to work on both shows at different times of the year while barely having a few minutes to breathe in the process. Nonetheless, this new pilot is conditional for her on being able to do it with “Sons of Anarchy,” and if a snag comes up down the road, she would stay put over the series that she has come to know and love versus something completely new.

As for Sutter’s own involvement in the series, he would reportedly hire a permanently showrunner in the event that the show does get picked up, though his EP credit would still enable him to oversee the progress of the show as a whole.
