We’e been waiting for quite some time to find out just what the “American Idol” judging panel is going to be for season 12, and we at least now know who are the people that Fox seems to want running the show when it premieres in January 2013.
According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Enrique Iglesias has been offered a position on the panel if he is interested in it. This formally makes the Latin pop singer the fourth judge to engage in pretty deep discussions with the show. Mariah Carey is the only person who is actually signed at the moment, but there are still plenty of rumors regarding both Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban. Both singers are reportedly close to signing deals, but nothing is official as of yet.
When it comes to Enrique, this is still an interesting choice given that he has turned down a number of official gigs earlier in his career when it came to singing competitions; plus, there was another candidate out there in Adam Lambert who was for sure interested, and would provide something that “American Idol” viewers were familiar with. Whether it’s Adam, Kelly Clarkson, or someone else, it is risky for the show to bring in four completely new judges and force Ryan Seacrest to carry the burden of being the only representative from the first eleven seasons.
No matter what decision is ultimately made here, we know that there will be something formal announced soon. Filming for the audition rounds will begin later this month, and the new season is set to premiere in January.
Do you think Enrique is the right choice, or do you really think this show needs someone from its own past to judge instead? If you want to check out some more news pertaining to the season 1 winner in Kelly Clarkson, be sure to visit the link here.
