2012 MTV VMAs: Demi Lovato, One Direction, Calvin Harris among winners

Want to know who were some of the big winners from the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday night? Be sure to check out this article all night long, as we are going to have constant updates as to everything that happens, and additional Moonman trophies that are handed out.

For the time being, here are the people who have taken home trophies; and conveniently, they also happen to be some of the people who are in attendance for the show.

Best Video with a Message – Demi Lovato, “Skyscraper”

Electronica Video – Calvin Harris, “Feel So Close”

Most Shareworthy Video – One Direction, “What Makes You Beautiful”

Pop Video – One Direction, “What Makes You Beautiful”

Male Video – Chris Brown, “Turn Up the Music”

Rap Video – Drake featuring Lil Wayne

Best New Artist – One Direction, “What Makes You Beautiful”

Best Female Video – Nicki Minaj, “Starships”

Video of the Year – Rihanna (featuring Calvin Harris), “We Found Love”

What makes some of these winners so noteworthy is that they were first-time nominees. Lovato has been on the scene for several years now, for example, but this is the first time she broke through to the extent that she pulled home a trophy for “Skyscraper.” Meanwhile, One Direction burst onto the American scene earlier this year, and they have not looked back since. Drake also finally won something after being nominated so many times for various trophies over the past year and coming up short time and time again. The biggest shocker was the lack of love here for Justin Bieber, despite the launch of his new album earlier this year.

What do you think about some of these winners? If you want to check out another big reveal from the VMAs this year in the “Jersey Shore” season 6 trailer, you can do over at this link.
