‘Supernatural’ season 8 spoilers: Sam and Dean have a purpose in new promo

Supernatural” is getting ready to launch its new season on October 3, and we have yet another reason to get excited about it now: the first extended promo has been released!

While Dean’s visit to purgatory is referenced early and often in this teaser, there is really one character who shines here as much as anyone else; and surprisingly, it is neither of our two leads. Kevin makes his presence felt here in a major way, as he tries his best to instruct the Winchester brothers that there is a way to close the gates of hell forever. Since this seems like the sort of thing any good person would want to do, they are of course keen to listen.

What makes season 8 so interesting is not just this story, but some of the overall techniques that are going to be used by new showrunner Jeremy Carver. The story has jumped forward a year since we last saw any action with the Winchesters, be we are going to go back repeatedly to see what happened during that span of time while Dean was in purgatory. This opens the door for multiple appearances from Misha Collins’ Castiel, some unique storylines for the two brothers away from each other, and also the potential for the two to use what they have learned in their past to try and find a way to secure their future. Carver hopes to ultimately make this show more about the Winchesters’ relationship than anything else, so here’s to hoping this season very much feels like the years of old.
