NBC’s ‘The Office’ season 9: Rainn Wilson explains ‘The Farm’ plan

Just in case you were wondering just how the upcoming spin-off of “The Office” entitled “The Farm” was going to work, we finally have some more details courtesy of none other than the new lead himself: Rainn Wilson.

In a new post on his Facebook page, Wilson confirmed what everyone already knew in that there will be an episode of the longstanding NBC series that focuses squarely on Dwight’s family and this potential story; but what we did not know that was in this announcement was that we could end up seeing more of “The Farm” early next year if the series does end up getting picked up:

“This episode will be done soon and then NBC will decide if they want ‘The Farm’ to be a series or not. Either way the episode will air as an Office episode in the winter sometime …┬áIf we shoot more, they would start airing in the winter/spring probably.”

We would imagine that what NBC would love to do is run “The Farm” after “The Office” to test out its ratings in the spring, this way they can have a lengthy span of time to see whether or not this show survives on its own. Is this really giving it much of an opportunity to escape from the shadow of “The Office”? Not really, but they do need to get as many viewers as possible, and “The Office” is still their most-watched and highest-rated regularly-scheduled comedy.

Some of the cast for the spin-off series includes “Breaking Bad” alum Matt Jones and College Humor star Thomas Middleditch as Dwight’s brother. There are some high expectations, but it is still to be seen as to whether or not Dwight will be funny without some of the customary foils around.

Are you excited for “The Farm,” or are you thinking that this is going to flop before the end of its first episode? Be sure to share your thoughts below! To view more scoop on the return of a fan favorite to “The Farm,” be sure to visit the link here.
