There are all sorts of burning questions still worth asking when it comes to what went down on “True Blood” prior to the finale last month, but there is one complaint that we have heard consistently from many fans: what in the world happened to Sookie and Alcide? It seemed a few episodes into season 5 that these two were going to become the new hot couple, but then we saw Alcide getting glamoured out of love with her, and even told that he was not even to look at her in a lustful way moving forward.
So why was this decision made to pull the rug out from under these two creatively? In an interview with TVLine, Alan all (who is stepping down from his post as showrunner) explained that the decision mostly revolved around a desire to make Sookie independent as a woman, and not just have her be someone who was constantly in need of a man in order to be happy:
“The decision to not do it this season [came about because] every single season, it’s been all about Sookie falling in love with this person or that person … It seemed like she had enough on her plate this season to not just [say], ‘Okay, now Sookie’s gonna fall in love with Alcide!’”
For those of you who have not heard already, Ball (who will continue to be involved in the show) has said that Alcide and Sookie will very much still be on the table for season 6, at least so long as Joe Manganiello’s character manages to work his way out of what a certain vampire put him through.
Are you still very much on team Sookie / Alcide? We want to hear from you below! If you want to see what the newest season of “True Blood” has been reduced to only ten episodes, you can check out the story over at this link.
