For this new edition of “American Idol” notes, we are very much going country in talking about some big things that a number of the biggest names from the show’s past are up to … beginning with season 10 champ Scotty McCreery.
The new tracklist – We recently revealed that Scotty’s new album, “Christmas with Scotty McCreery,” would be made available at a date that is a little early for the holiday season in October 16. Now, we can name some of the songs that are actually going to be a part of the disc.
When it comes to the classics, there are a number of songs that you are sure to have heard a number of times in the past: “Holly Jolly Christmas,” “The First Noel,” “The Christmas Song,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Jingle Bells,” “Let It Snow,” and “O Holy Night.” There is also a pair of songs that are a little less frequently covered in “Mary, Did You Know?” and the Elvis Presley version of “Santa Claus Is Back in Town,” which makes sense given the singer’s love for the King of Rock n’ Roll.
Finally, the album is going to have a pair of original songs on it in “Christmas in Heaven” and “Christmas Is Coming Around.” Hopefully this will be a big seller for Scotty, and keep people interested in his music moving forward to next year. However, he will have some competition in the world of country: Blake Shelton also has a holiday disc coming out.
CMA nominations – First things first, can we agree that there are way too many country music awards shows? The CMA Awards are at least one of the more important ones of the year, but even they made a pretty interesting decision this year: nominating Kelly Clarkson for Female Vocalist of the Year despite the fact that she is really not a country artist in any shape or form.
Kelly is also competing against Carrie Underwood in this category, but it’s strange to thing her limited to just this category given the smash success of her recent album “Blown Away.”
Kelly Pickler shows solidarity with friend – We have seen Kellie Pickler do some cool things over the years, but this has to be in many ways one of the coolest. On “Good Morning America” Wednesday, it was revealed that the season 5 star had shaved her head in a show of solidarity with her friend Summer Miller, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
With Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) coming up, this is such a great gesture to remind people about the cause and encourage people to find their own way to raise awareness and give back. So hats off and great applause to Kellie here!
