2012 VMAs: Rihanna to open show; Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne added

With the 2012 MTV VMAs only a matter of days away, we are starting to find out some more much-coveted details about what is going to be happening during the broadcast … including some more performers.

On Tuesday, the premium cable network announced that Rihanna is actually going to open the show with a performance of “Cockiness (Love It)” Thursday night, and that there would be a pair of notable hip-hop artists who would be joining the group: Nicki Minaj (who has been in the headlines lately thanks to “American Idol” judging rumors) and Lil Wayne, who is going to return to the show’s stage to perform “No Worries.” Another rapper in 2 Chainz is going to make his VMA debut during the broadcast.

Rihanna is one of the lading nominees of the year courtesy of her song “We Found Love,” but if there is anything that we have learned about this show over the years, it is that anything can happen and you really have to expect the unexpected to occur. The same goes for host Kevin Hart, who is going to be taking on this challenge first time following his time hosting the BET Awards. The only question mark we have going into this show is Green Day. The group was scheduled to perform, but health issues related to singer Billie Joe Armstrong may keep this from happening.

Be sure to come back on Thursday night, as we are going to have plenty of coverage of all things VMA, including notable moments from the broadcast and a full winners list. Are you getting excited about the lineup of performers for this year’s show? We want to hear from you below!┬áIf you want to see just who is going to be performing during the pre-show for the VMAs this year, all you have to do is head on over to this link.
