The plane crash at the end of “Grey’s Anatomy” season 8 was hard on everyone, but there’s no question that there are two people who are going to be feeling the pain from it emotionally more than anyone else: Meredith Grey and Mark Sloan. Since we know that Eric Dane is going to be leaving the show at some point before the new season really gets going, we are only going to see his doctor character deal with Lexie’s death for a short amount of time (which could be even shorter if Mark ends up dying).
So what about Lexie’s own sister? Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Shonda Rhimes does tease a change in attitude in Meredith in the wake of what happened, though not necessarily the full-on rage that Pompeo recently hinted at:
“I don’t know if she’s angrier or meaner, but she’s a lot more no-nonsense … She doesn’t have a lot of patience for less than perfect. She’s very good at what she does, and after her experience in the woods, takes saving lives very, very seriously.”
For those of you who really do want to see Meredith break down, as hard as it will be to watch, Rhimes also promises that this moment will come in a very specific episode coming up:
“We sort of build to the idea where Meredith, who tends to clamp down because that’s her way, finally has a moment when she really mourns.”
Even though Chyler Leigh is no longer a part of the show, the important thing to take note of here is that Rhimes and company are doing everything they can to ensure that her character and her significance in the story is not forgotten. Eventually, you can move on with your life; but in order for that to happen, you do have to go through a pretty difficult process.
