While we have already published our Tuesday morning edition of “American Idol” notes, there is some new breaking news from the camp of Pia Toscano that is so surprising, we would be remiss if we did not talk about it sooner rather than later.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the season 10 star, best known for her shocking early elimination, has revealed that she has separated from Jimmy Iovine and Interscope before the launch of her debut album. This is a rare move for a contestant on the Fox series to make, but there was some writing on the wall here. Pia had started to record her album before any other season 10 contestant last year, and despite performing a song on tour last summer in “This Time,” we never heard anything else from her when it came to original music.
Pia did not go into details, but she told the website that there was a “difference of opinion” between her and Interscope that led to the decision being made:
“There were a lot of opinions going on, and there was also mine. The audience sees through everything, and if you are not true to who you are, they are going to know. I wanted an album that I could believe in and I could stand by, and I have the perfect team to do that right now.”
There’s not a timetable yet on when her new album will be launched now, and we wonder just how many songs from her recordings in the past year will make the cut. Regardless, this is going to be an interesting situation to watch, and hopefully we will have more news on this subject soon. There’s no question Pia is a talented singer, and we understand her need for the right material given that the need for her personality to shine through was one of the issues she struggled with while on the show last year.
