‘Downton Abbey’ season 3: Shirley MacLaine falls in love on set

Mrs Carter: Could there be sparks on the “Downton Abbey” set for MacLaine?

The masterminds behind the hit show “Downton Abbey” have already been basking in the buzz that acting legend Maggie Smith has brought to the series and so it wasn’t all together shocking that they managed to land Oscar winning actress Shirley MacLaine to play opposite Smith as the American mother of Cora Crawley.

While speaking with Radio Times, MacLaine revealed that she has made a habit of falling in love with someone on the set of every project she worked on, leaving the “Downton Abbey” cast wondering who might catch Shirley’s heart this time around.  MacLaine said;

“I told them I fell in love with someone on every picture I made for the first 30 years. People say the biggest part of my talent is curiosity. They wondered who it would be this time.”

The interviewer asked if the man that could potentially win her affections this time around might be leading man Hugh Bonneville (Robert Crawley), but with a laugh the actress played coy and said: “I’m not talking.”

MacLaine was later asked if she had given up on men entirely and she said;

“You must never give up on half the human race. What you really want to know is am I [expletive] anyone? When Oliver Stone asked me that I threw a glass of wine in his face. My answer is ‘no answer’. I take the Fifth on the grounds that any answer might incriminate me. I’ve always been attracted to difficult men. They provide you with things to figure out. I suspect nice people: they can’t be real, don’t you agree? Newscasters! Acting so chirpy, wondering how they’re being perceived. Oh my God!”

Downton Abbey” will be returning to the British airwaves this fall, but for all the fans in North America that are itching to tune in and catch up with their favorite family, you’ll be waiting until early next year before it airs.
