‘Weeds’ review: The other shoe drops … or does it?

A few weeks ago on “Weeds,” it really appeared as though we were finally going to arrive at a happy ending for one Nancy Botwin and the rest of her family — Andy was with Jill, Nancy and Silas had new jobs, and Shane was even well on his way to having a nice career in the force.

However, it’s amazing just what a few episodes can do to shake things up. Now, everyone across the board appears to out of some degree of lock. Silas was fired after trying to sneak his product out of the lab, Shane is about to be in a world of hurt courtesy of the police, and Andy has went from being married to quite possible annulled in the span of just a day — and this is with a woman that he met after he both slept with someone other than Jill and saw their relationship fall to pieces. What’s interesting about all this, though, is just how natural it feels — when you remember what the tittle of the show is, it seems unnatural for the Botwin family to be anywhere other than where they would be selling the product that they have become so familiar with over the years.

On a different note, we have to give the Doug storyline a little bit of credit here — we have no idea where this insane story about his charity for the homeless is going, but it’s delightfully funny and strange at the same time. It’s almost like the quick fix for laughs when the rest of the story gets heavy (which it did after Nancy sort-of broke up with rabbi who seemed to be rather awesome for her in many ways — even if he was still coping with his wife’s death.

Even though some of the “happy ending” is going for these characters, do you think it is a little more appropriate that they end up closer to where they started? If you want to check out some more of the latest news in regard to the show, be sure and follow the link here.
