NBC’s ‘Community’ season 4 spoilers: Tricia Helfer lands coveted guest spot

Are you ready for a little bit of your “Battlestar Galactica” mixed in with your “Community“? If so, be sure to start smiling and putting on your best Cylon costumes now.

According to a new report from TVLine, Tricia Helfer is going to be stopped by for an episode airing at some point this coming fall as Lauren, a described “gorgeous” girl who Abed meets while at an “Inspector Spacetime” convention. Basically, her character is the sort of person that geeks typically dream of — someone who they are attracted to, and also someone who has the same sort of interests that they do.

Helfer has recently appeared in a number of shows not related to science fiction at all — including “Burn Notice,” “The Firm” (watched by an audience even smaller than “Community”), and “Criminal Minds.” In many ways, she is the perfect fit for this part given her history with the genre — even though we are sure that some people pining for Summer Glau (especially due to her history with “The Cape”) are no doubt a little bit bummed.

The new “Community” season will kick off on Friday, October 19 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time — hardly an ideal place for the show to be given the young fan following that has a tendency to go out and do other things over the weekend. Hopefully, Helfer’s appearance will at least do something to get a few more people to tune in.

What do you think about this casting, and do you actually want to see a Lauren / Abed romance happen? Granted, we just want to see what happens when Abed actually has romantic feelings … if he is even capable of them outside of playing a character.
