Outside of a new episode of “Breaking Bad,” we are not sure that there is any news better than this — Bryan Cranston is coming on board “30 Rock” for an episode set to air during the NBC show’s final season.
So who is the Emmy-winning actor going to play? According to TV Guide, Cranston is going to play the “friend” (otherwise known as the likely lover) to Kenneth’s mother, who will be played by Catherine O’Hara. Cranston, who first found mainstream success on “Malcolm in the Middle,” has not done much comedy work in front of the camera as of late — however, he did direct an episode of “Modern Family” last year, and is also working on an episode of “The Office” in a similar capacity.
In addition to the news concerning Cranston’s casting, it also looks like Kristen Schaal is going to stick around to play the part of Hazel for a little while longer as a potential love interest for Kenneth. We’re not exactly as enthused about this news, mostly because her character oftentimes felt a bit forced and over-the-top throughout season 6 as his replacement in the NBC Page Program. (However, that could all change this year.)
The final season of “30 Rock” is one of the last comedies (save for the ones on Friday night) to premiere on NBC this fall, and it will start up on Thursday, October 4 in the incredibly challenge 8:00 p.m. timeslot against “The Big Bang Theory.” With the show ending, it’s fair to say that you are going to expect plenty of other big-name guest stars (including some people from the past) to appear.
