Michael J. Fox and Ashton Kutcher wee each recently lured back into full-time series work after several years away — could Robin Williams really be next after a break of several decades? It’s unclear, but CBS is certainly making their best pitch to try and make it happen.
In a move that has certainly surprised many, the former “Mork & Mindy” star is in talks with 20th Century Fox TV and veteran producer David E. Kelley (fresh off the end of “Harry’s Law”) about doing a new single-camera comedy series set in the world of advertising. (Think “Mad Men” — but funny!) There would also be a co-worker who just so happened to be his daughter.
CBS has already in deep talks with the production company about picking this show up, and it seems tailor-made for them — it stars a veteran actor and producer who know how to make good TV, and it should have broad appeal. The only surprising thing is that CBS typically relies ore on multi-camera sitcoms like “The Big Bang Theory” and “Two and a Half Men,” but would likely make an exception for Williams. If Robin signs on, it’s almost a sure thing that this will end up becoming a series; otherwise, it will likely end up going nowhere. CBS does need another strong comedy next year, especially when you consider that both “Two and a Half Men” and “How I Met Your Mother” could be hitting the road come next May.
Do you think that the timing makes sense for Williams to return to TV? We want to hear some of your thoughts below! In addition, be sure to head on over to this link to find out some more information about Fox’s upcoming return to TV.
