Sometimes, there are hit shows that continue to surprise even us — and “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” is certainly one of them. The show is an offshoot of “Toddlers & Tiaras,” but it’s starting to become even more popular than the original show. It’s taken a little bit of the world of pageants, mixed it with the hillbilly charm of “Swamp People” or “Duck Dynasty,” and then added the family element of “Jon and Kate Plus 8.” Basically, it’s like watching complete and total chaos on your television.
When we first heard about the concept, we admittedly didn’t think it was going to amount to much other than a “Toddlers & Tiaras” spin-off designed to just get some viewers over to it. However, Wednesday night’s new episode brought in a strong 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic (only 0.3 behind “So You Think You Can Dance” on Fox), and also ended up scoring nearly three million viewers. How popular is Honey Boo Boo? In the aforementioned demo, the show about the Southern family eclipsed every other program on cable Wednesday night — even the monsters known as “The Big Bang Theory” over on TBS.
The only thing we are wondering now is whether or not TLC regrets only ordering a small number of episodes for this series to test it out. Now, they have to hope that they can still catch lightning in a bottle again, versus just capitalizing on a series when it is obviously hot and doing better than almost any series they have launched recently.
Are you surprised with some of the great ratings for this show, and do you think it is the sense of escapism that is bringing so many viewers? If you want to check out some more of the latest news pertaining to Honey Boo Boo,, be sure and head on over to this link.
