Hawaii Five-0 season 8 finale review: Introducing Kamekona’s Italian Bistro

Hawaii Five-0 season 8 finale

The Hawaii Five-0 seaosn 8 finale on CBS opened with what was a pretty clear reminder of one thing: Finales go hard for this show. As if nothing could topple the house – helicopter incident from last season, we had a giant Russian submarine in the opening minutes. To go along with that, we also had threats of an international incident since it really wasn’t supposed to be there.

As it turns out, there was a Russian spy ring far closer to the island than anyone realized. This became, in turn, one of the most action-packed episodes this season in that it united the entire Five-0 task force. There were fewer side cases this time and it eventually led to McGarrett, Steve, Grover, Tani, and Junior all investigating together. Also, there was about a split-second when we seriously thought that Grover was going to get shot.

Ultimately, the question that we were curious about came around the fifty-minute mark — would we actually see resolution here? As it turns out, yes. Fivc-0 was able to arrest a sleeper agent in Hawaii from the consulate who was living a double life and, in the end, the submarine went away from Hawaii’s coastline. To go along with this, multiple other spies were arrested throughout the island. Basically, think of tonight’s finale as Hawaii Five-0 meets The Americans.

Is this story over? We feel like that’s something we’re going to get some answers on next week.

Tani’s revelation

Remember what she found in Adam’s place last week? At the end of the episode she had Junior over to show her precisely what she found — the gun. It turns out that the gun could be the same murder weapon that killed Adam’s half-sister. Tani also knew that Adam seemingly had a motive to commit the crime — he felt that she deserved so much worse.

Moving into season 9, it now feels as though Adam is a serious murder suspect. The dilemma for her is pretty simple — turn in Adam, or let it slide because of what he’s done for her and the team. That’s the cliffhanger that we’ve got for the time being.

CarterMatt Verdict

There were many lighter moments in the finale tonight, including Tani and Junior flirting in the car and Steve and Danny getting more into business with Kamekona. That seems to be a little bit of a blessing and a curse since this guy is resourceful, but he’s also going to command plenty of coin. The restaurant is opening … soon! The problem is that per Kamekona, it seems to be called “Kamekona’s Italian Bistro.”

As much as we laughed over the restaurant, we are VERY concerned over Adam.
