We knew that the producers of “Once Upon a Time” in Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz were waiting to find a role for their former “Lost” cohort Jorge Garcia, and he has now officially landed one of the biggest parts of all — at least literally.
The news came out on Wednesday that Garcia, fresh off of his role in the now-canceled series “Alcatraz,” has booked a gig that is currently just one episode on the ABC series — and specifically, he will be the Giant that likely squares off with the mysterious character known as Jack (who currently has no actor attached to him at all). If this Giant is anything like the one in the classic “Jack and the Beanstalk” stories, then this marks the second major villain (following Colin O’Donoghue’s Captain Hook) that has been brought into this world.
It would be exciting to see Garcia take on a part that has much more of an evil tinge to it especially after so many of his parts over the years have been as the sort of comic relief to those around him. The good news here is that given his popularity — plus that of the show itself — we have a hard time imagining that they will slam the door on him making an additional appearance at some point in the future.
Garcia joins a number of other new actors coming on board the series for spots this year including Sarah Bolger (Sleeping Beauty), Julian Morris (Prince Phillip), the aforementioned O’Donoghue, Michael Raymond-James (part unknown), and Sinqua Walls (Lancelot). The town of Storybrooke is clearly expanding, so let’s just hope they have room for someone else to stomp on through with a roar and a “fee, fi, fo, fum.”
