You have to give some major credit to “Sons of Anarchy” showrunner Kurt Sutter at the moment — he is intent on keeping things as authentic as possible on his hit FX series. How authentic is he going with one of his new characters? Let’s just say that he is bringing a man from a real-life motorcycle gang on board to play him.
In a new post on Twitter, Sutter made the following announcement that should definitely please some diehard fans of the show:
“In episode 509, we meet Quinn, the nomad president we’ve mentioned since Season 1, played by the incredibly substantial [Rusty Coones].”
For those unfamiliar, Coones is the founder of the Orange County chapter of Hells Angels, and has already contributed to the series in a number of ways over the course of the past several years — whether it be through the music of his metal band Attika7, or some custom bikes that were built at his shop specifically for Sutter and the show.
Coones joins an impressive guest cast for the new season premiering on September 11, including the likes of Jimmy Smits (“Dexter”), Harold Perrineau (“Lost”), and a surprisingly dramatic turn for Joel McHale (“Community”). Considering that this man in real life is 6’5” and an imposing physical presence, we have a feeling that Quinn is going to cause all sorts of problems for every person that comes into contact with him.
What do you think about this casting, and of Sutter making sure that the series stays so close to some of its motorcycle club roots? We want to hear some more of your thoughts with a comment below! If you want to check out a number of new promos for the series, be sure to head on over to this link.
