For those of you who only enjoy people falling off of big balls when Jill Wagner is around, the following bit of news is sure to be music to your ears even more so than random nicknames and snarky commentary.
Not only did ABC announce on Wednesday that their summer reality hit “Wipeout” has been renewed for a sixth season, but that the show is going to feature the return of their original sideline reporter. Wagner was on the show from its inception until the summer of last year, and then she left in order to pursue an acting career. After scoring a few gigs here and there (including a spot on “Teen Wolf”), she is now going to be back in action when the show returns next year.
In a statement, here is what the creator (and master of wipeouts) Matt Kunitz had to say:
“I’m thrilled that we will hit a major milestone in our sixth season, our 100th episode. We’ll be celebrating all season long with brand new over-the-top courses and the return of Jill Wagner to the ‘Wipeout’ family.”
While “Wipeout” has never exactly been Emmy-caliber television, the reason that it has found so much success is pretty simple — it’s pure escapism on a time when there is not too much competition, and it is funny sometimes to just watch people fail and fail hard on television. Luckily, the show has introduced enough twists over the years to ensure that the format stays somewhat fresh, and we are not just watching the same stunts every single season on the same course. (See “Oh Sit!” for an example of the contrary.)
Just in case you’ve forgotten about some of Jill’s past highlights from the show, you can check them out in the video below. Are you glad to see her back, and the show returning for more hilarious thrills and spills?
