The beginning of “How I Met Your Mother” season 8 is going to begin by flashing forward to the wedding between Barney and Robin — and as expected, it is also going to play a very important role in what could very well be the series finale airing in May.
Speaking to “Access Hollywood” in a new interview, Cobie Smulders (who plays the former Canadian pop star and TV news personality) had some pretty interesting things to say in regards to when this much-discussed ceremony is going to take place in real time on the show:
“We have a very weird timeframe. The wedding takes place at the end of this season … Our show is very mysterious and we like to keep it that way – even for people who work on it! So I don’t really know. I think that they’re intending to get married. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
So is the wedding really going to be the end of the series? We know that this is where Ted meets the eventual mother of his children, so it is hard to see the show going past that unless it becomes “How I Married Your Mother” or something else along those lines. It’s also possible that the plan may currently be for the characters to wed this coming May, and that could change based on how negotiations go for a ninth season. There is still some major mystery as to how those talks with the cast and producers are currently going — while CBS wants a ninth season, there are all sorts of variables that could ultimately keep it from happening.
Do you think that the wedding between Barney and Robin should happen in May, regardless of whether or not this is the last season? If you want to see what Smulders could have on her plate moving forward beyond this series, be sure to head on over to this link.
