Warning: If you haven’t watched Tuesday night’s summer finale for “Pretty Little Liars,” it is best to stop reading now.
At the end of the episode, we finally learned that not only was Nate responsible in many ways for some of the drama involving Emily and Paige, but that it was Keegan Allen’s character of Toby who actually was working with the A-Team all along. It was a move that no one on the show really saw coming, mostly because it is still unclear what exactly his motivation could be.
So what does Allen have to say about playing this new part now? Speaking in a new interview on the ABC Family show’s official site (which you can see below), he explained first and foremost when it was that he found out that he was going to be the person responsible for betraying the Liars and his girlfriend Spencer:
“I found out kind of early on in the season … I had a meeting with one of the writers, and they introduced me to the idea. I thought it was a joke, but they were serious … Toby was the most trustworthy character in the Rosewood universe, so my first thought was ‘wow.'”
Allen also said that he was hopeful that the fans would react well to this major twist, but that he had so much faith in his writers and producers that he was trying to not allow himself to be altogether concerned about it for the time being. Now that this reveal is out there, we will hopefully figure out some more information soon — including why Toby has decided to make this move, and whether or not he is genuinely evil, or just pretending to be in order to infiltrate the “A-Team” and figure out what is happening behind the scenes.
