It’s hard to debate that the past few years have been hard ones on Dr. Meredith Grey. Despite her passing her board exams and getting all sorts of career opportunities, she’s been through a difficult adoption process, nearly lost her relationship with Derek, and did witness the death of her sister Lexie during last season’s finale. With all of this in mind, it’s fair to say that she is going to be doing with a number of emotions that could cause her to act out.
Speaking in a new interview with TV Guide, Ellen Pompeo claims that early on this season on “Grey’s Anatomy,” you are going to see our title doctor express herself with some of her new students in some interesting ways:
“She’s definitely angry at the beginning of the season … She’s angry about all the stuff that happened, so she’s teaching her interns and she’s really mean to them. It’s an homage to the first Dr. Grey, Meredith’s mother, who is the first bitch surgeon, so I get to channel Kate Burton and be mean.”
So is this going to last forever? We can’t see it, mostly because we can’t really imagine Meredith staying horrible to anyone for an extended period of time. We just know that she is trying to find some ways to channel her inner grief, and it may take her a few episodes before she figures out that abusing her interns is not going to bring Lexie back. (At least one more person in the plane crash is leaving the show in Eric Dane’s Mark, but we don’t know if the character dies.)
