Is Nick Jonas officially off the list as a candidate to be the next “American Idol” judge? While nothing is set in stone just yet, the latest bit of news suggests that the youngest member of the Jonas Brothers group may be looking to go in a different direction — and on a different reality show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nick is set to join Demi Lovato on “The X Factor” this fall for the judges’ houses portion of the competition. This is the show’s final stage of bootcamp, where each one of the judges is joined by a celebrity as they narrow down their finalists and ultimately select the team that they want to move forward with on the show. For Demi, it really does make sense that this would be who she would be interested in working with — the “Skyscraper” singer has a history with the Jonas Brothers dating back to the 2008 TV movie “Camp Rock,” and she even toured with them on a number of occasions. (She also dated at one point Nick’s older brother Joe Jonas.)
Demi is one of the new additions to the judging panel this year, and the hope here is that she is going to bring plenty of enthusiasm while also getting more young people excited about checking out the show — after all, this is one of the demographics that really seems to matter to advertisers the most. This is the same reason why “American Idol” has been interested in Nick, but the real question remaining is whether or not he fits in with a panel that may include Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban.
