It sure did not take Abby Elliot long to find some work following her time on “Saturday Night Live” — the actress has just signed on for a new gig on CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother.”
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly (who first reported the news) in an interview, here is what executive producer Craig Thomas had to say about Elliot’s role:
“We’re thrilled to have the hilarious Abby Elliot joining us in an arc as Janeane, the craziest girl the HIMYM gang has ever encountered. And the strange, inexplicable phenomenon is: the crazier Janeane gets, the more attractive one of the gang finds her … It doesn’t end well.”
If you have been reading this site well, then this character sounds an awful lot like the final “mistake” that Ted is going to make on the way to finally meeting the future mother of his children. We already know that he and Victoria are not destined to be together at the end of the day, and this is even after she makes the decision to leave Klaus at the altar. Therefore, Elliot’s Janeane lands somewhere between Ashley Williams’ character and the woman we are still waiting to meet — at least so long as she proves to be the Ted love interest we’ve been hearing about.
There is another interesting connection when it comes to Elliot and this show in particular — her father Chris (who is also an “SNL” alum) already plays a recurring role as Lily’s father, who tried to live with her for a stretch of time during last season.
