At the start of season 4 of “The Vampire Diaries,” we are going to see a story that revolves very much around someone becoming a completely new person — Elena. After spending the entirety of her life as a human being, she is now a vampire — and as we saw with Caroline in season 2, this is going to be an adjustment period.
We already know that Stefan is going to very much be someone who helps her through her transition, we also now know that there is someone else who is not going to help her — Damon. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in a new interview, executive producer Julie Plec suggested that becoming a vampire in the mind of Ian Somerhalder’s character is just something that Elena is going to have to deal with:
“In his mind, there’s an inevitability to being a vampire that we should just get to and get past. [It’s] the equivalent of kicking Elena out of the bird’s nest and letting her fall and see if she can fly.”
This explanation does fit very much in mind with the description of Damon this season that we have already heard — namely in that he is going to be much more aggressive and focused on his own needs rather than pleasing anyone else this season. After all, he has already seemingly lost out on being with Elena, as she picked Stefan during the season 3 finale.
Do you think Damon has the right idea when it comes to dealing with Elena, or is there something else that he should be doing instead to actually helping out?
