‘Game of Thrones’ season 3: Joe Dempsie on preparations

It is sad, but also true — we are going to be waiting for quite a while to check out the next season of “Game of Thrones.” Production started off last month in Northern Ireland, but March 31, 2013 is when we are actually going to have an opportunity to see some new episodes.

So what is going to happen? If you really want to know some plot spoilers, go read the George R.R. Martin novel A Storm of Swords. The cast is not going to reveal too much outside of explaining their own experiences preparing for what lies ahead — which Joe Dempsie did as a part of a recent interview with Idol Magazine in the context of working with horses:

“I’ve just been doing a read-throughs and I did some horse riding training, the first time I’ve been horse riding and it was surprisingly fun! … I was a little apprehensive about it but I’ve heard that horses can sense your fear, so the rational side of my brain just worked out that the best thing to do was to chill out, relax, and it’s actually a lot of fun. It’s one of those things that looks so cool…and it’s a great skill to have for an actor, I think it’s the kind of thing I’d like to keep up, even after we’ve finished filming, I just want to get really good at it because I know from the people teaching us that there’s no limit to how good you can get as a rider.”

Last season, Dempsie’s character of Gendry spent a good chunk of time working with Arya while one the road and at Harrenhal. Where will he end up next? Wherever it is, let’s just hope that there is plenty of excitement for him.
