Are Callie and Arizona really going to be okay on “Grey’s Anatomy“? Over the past several weeks, that seems to be the question that just about everyone is interested in knowing an answer to. Out of everyone who was a part of the plane crash at the end of last season, Jessica Capshaw is the only actress whose status moving forward is in jeopardy — Chyler Leigh has already said goodbye, and we know that Eric Dane is also going to be leaving at some point early this fall.
Speaking on this subject in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Shonda Rhimes was of course coy about what is going to happen — however, she did at least tease that we are going to have some sort of interesting story to look forward to:
“I can’t say anything other than [Callie and Arizona’s arc] is interesting. There’s a big story this year in the Callie camp – but that’s all I’m going to say.”
This quote may be best described as a perfect example of Rhimes knowing exactly how much to say on a given subject. We’ve said this before, and it’s probably safe to stress it time and time again until the show actually returns on September 27 — if Arizona does in fact die, it is probably going to be one of the biggest tragedies the show has had to date. After all, we’ve already seen a number of couples split in the past year (Henry / Teddy, what would have been Mark / Lexie), and it’s hard to fathom adding another one to the list so soon. How many couples like this would fall apart due to a death in real life at such an early age?
