With us now knowing the news for certain that season 9 of “The Office” will indeed be the last, it is now time to move on to the next order of business — trying to fill out the cast for the upcoming spin-off of the show featuring Dwight Shrute.
While we are not going to know for sure as to whether or not “The Farm” ends up getting picked up to series until next year, at some point this season we are going to see an “Office” episode that sets up the sort of life that Dwight will be moving into following his stay at Dunder-Mifflin. Apparently, it includes meeting a score of family members that we did not know about previously.
So who is joining Majandra Delfino, who has already been cast as his sister? Multiple reports have confirmed that the honor here is going to go to College Humor star Thomas Middleditch — a man with a last name that is in many ways perfectly suited for a comedy show. This character of Jeb is described as a pot farmer who has also tried out a number of other crazy jobs — including a Bigfoot hunter — in order to find a place in the world. As you can expect when you go after supernatural creatures for a living, it does not end up going particularly well.
If this show is eventually picked up to series, this character will end up becoming a series regular. What is interesting about this spin-off so far is that rather than trying to capitalize on bringing some big names into the fold, the producers for the NBC show are instead looking to cast based on the sort of character that we want to see alongside Dwight.
Are you familiar with Middleditch’s work, and are you excited for this spin-off at all given how much of Dwight we have seen already? If you want to read some more scoop on the final season of the show, be sure and check out the story here.
