The September 24 premiere of “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” is coming up fast, and we are now at one of our favorite parts of this entire process — getting to critique some of the promotional photos from ABC! These are typically the world’s greatest expression of ballroom ridiculousness. Some of them are glamorous, some are silly, and some seem to be completely and totally baffling. Since these contestants have all been on the show before, what makes this group especially noteworthy is that they have all had some time to figure out how they want to present themselves in their second go-around.
So who are the big winners of the group? The honors really go to most of the ladies — Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy look like they are straight out of a romance novel, while Melissa Rycroft and Shawn Johnson do a pretty great job at replicating the show’s sense of fun in their photos. Of the men, Helio Castroneves easily looks the most natural next to Chelsie Hightower, and Drew Lachey looks like he is about to go party it up in Brazil.
On the opposite side of things, Bristol Palin and Cherly Burke (alongside Emmitt Smith) are hardly recognizable in their photos which read to us like they are trying way too hard. Gilles Marini looks like he just took a photo in what he was wearing for the day, and Apolo Anton Ohno looks like he is grimacing more than he is smiling. (The other photos fall more in the middle.)
Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are the only pairing without photos attached to them at the moment — that is, outside of the one couple that America is voting on to bring into the competition. Hopefully, we’ll find out the answer there soon so they can start rehearsing.
