Yet another day, and yet another new teaser video for “American Horror Story: Asylum” — though this time, it also feels a little bit more like a sketch from a “Monty Python” film than something to be genuinely afraid of.
The premise for the teaser is really quite simple — we see a nun ascending a staircase in normal fashion, and then what appears to be some sort of crazed inmate climbing underneath it. References to Eric Idle aside, this is a pretty creepy teaser, and at least here it is pretty clear what Ryan Murphy and company are trying to shore — pure insanity.
The most important thing to remember about some of these teasers is that while we have seen some pretty gruesome things from them, most of them (with the exception of the freaky blue coat that stands up without any help) are not related to supernatural occurrences in any way. Rather, they instead feel grounded in some sort of demented, cruel reality where terror really comes from within insanity.
There still is not a confirmed premiere date for “American Horror Story” just yet, but all of the teasers promise that the show will launch in the ever-so-appropriate time period of October — when just about everyone is looking for a scare. In between this and the season 3 premiere of “The Walking Dead,” we are betting that this is going to be a petty good month for scripted TV on cable. (ABC tried to go scary with “The River” last year, but it simply did not end up working.)
