At this point, everyone knows that Ted Mosby loves crafting a good yarn on “How I Met Your Mother” — after all, we’ve really been hearing one for about eight years now. However the narrative focus is going to shift slightly during the season 8 premiere on September 27 — and it is something that could end up having an interesting impact on the story as a whole.
Speaking in a new interview with TV Guide, executive producer Craig Thomas reveals that Ted is going to be spending much of his season premiere telling a story for an old woman named Bernice (Judith Drake), and this may actually end up being important for something down the line:
“It’s an interesting story he’s telling and I can’t say exactly who she is, but there might be a little more to her.”
What more could there be? It’s pure speculation, but we wouldn’t necessarily be shocked if there is some connection between this woman and the infamous Mother — after all, the show has made an effort over the years to show that there is serendipity playing a major role in Ted’s love story in between Rachel Bilson’s character of her roommate and the fact that she was in one of Ted’s classes at one point. If there does end up being a connection, we are expecting there to be some serious comedy here and he reveals so intimate details to a woman that could someday be an in-law. This is at least our dream scenario, but hey — the writers are the writers for a reason, and they may come up with something even more brilliant.
