When you think back to “The Walking Dead” season 2, many people were spoiled about the death of Jon Bernthal’s Shane for a pair of reasons:
1. The character also died in the Robert Kirkman graphic novels
2. Bernthal had been announced as the star for another upcoming show, and there was no way he would be able to do both at the same time.
Are we looking at the latter sort of situation now with “True Blood”? Both yes and no — while we know that a star of the show is moving on to a new show, it may not necessarily guarantee that the character is going to die in the season 5 finale.
According to TVLine, Janina Gavankar — who plays Sam’s shapeshifting girlfriend Luna, has joined Fox’s midseason comedy “The Goodwin Games” in a recurring role as Hannah. This show is coming to us courtesy of “How I Met Your Mother” executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, and is a far cry from having to run around without your clothes on while dealing with deadly vampires.
The key word in this announcement is “recurring” — meaning that she is not a regular here, and could be able to pull double duty on both shows if Luna survives the finale (and we’re hoping she does, given that the love interest getting killed off is because too predictable at this point). Plus, the shooting schedules could very well line up in a way that it is convenient for Gavankar to take on both parts.
While we are pretty confident that this is not another Jon Bernthal situation exactly, this casting news does put us a little bit more on red alert that something could happen to Luna in the finale.
Do you want to see Luna survive, or are you more of the opinion at this point that “True Blood” really needs to trim their enormous cast by a wide margin? We want to hear some of your thoughts below!
