Thanks to some judging rumors regarding “American Idol” that have been burning through the internet like a wildfire on Tuesday, this is technically our first edition of the show “notes” of the day.
With that in mind … we have quite a bit to talk about!
A new Phillip Phillips song – Want to hear some more of the reigning champ’s original music? Since his coronation song “Home” was not written by him, we really haven’t had many opportunities to hear his tunes.
This new song was performed at a Mix 106.1 event in Pennsylvania this week, and it is entitled “Take Me Away.” Yes, it is easy to make the Dave Matthews comparisons after listening to the melody line here — but we actually hear some of Damien Race (another artist that Phillip is a fan of) and even a little bit of Alice in Chains, shockingly enough. It’s a pretty cool song, and we would be intrigued to see if something like this will make his debut album.
New performances from Lee and Haley – We have heard some patriotic performances in the past when it comes to both Haley Reinhart and Lee DeWyze, but in our mind we still welcome hearing as many of these as we possibly can. After all, there’s nothing like these performances to remind you how good these “American Idol” stars really are when it comes to their vocals.
These two videos come from last night’s Los Angeles Dodgers game, and the feature Lee taking on “God Bless America” while Haley performed “The Star-Spangled Banner.” If you wanted a destination to hear “American Idol” alums and Chicago natives performing on the same night, Dodger Stadium was the place to be!
As expected, both singers do a pretty fantastic job.
Enrique Iglesias news – We’ll close with some confirmation per People Magazine that Enrique has at least talked with show producers about a gig as a judge for season 12 — though that is all the information we know for the time being.
