“The Walking Dead” has done its best to stay somewhat faithful to the graphic novels throughout the first two seasons, but they are going to be taking a major deviation next courtesy of a brand-new character — though the good news is that he is one that source writer Robert Kirkman seems to both support and endorse.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kirkman opened up about a new character named “Milton” — a guy (played by “Rubicon” alum Dallas Roberts, a familiar name in the AMC family) who is not on the same level as Rick or many of the other characters when it came to killing zombies left and right:
“Milton is the details guy … He’s the guy that works with the Governor, who is monitoring all situations and is trying to help the Governor make sense of this world that they’re living in. He’s not exactly a scientist, but he’s a smart guy that is trying to find out how zombies behave. Watching him do his little experiments is going to be a lot of fun.”
According to Kirkman and Glen Mazzara, this character will be important to help establish that there are characters within this world that operate differently than just as assassins or zombie killers — he will bring in some of that childlike curiosity, and also show that there are some other ways to survive. (On an unrelated note, Roberts’ look comes across as a hybrid of Alan Tudyk and Michael Emerson — if his character is the same way, we’re likely to be pretty happy about this new addition.
Do you think that this character could really end up helping to enrich the series, or would you prefer it if the show stuck more to the source material? If you want to check out a look at some of the walkers that we are going to be seeing on this coming season, be sure and read our story over here.
