We know that putting Ian Somerhalder in the role of Christian Grey is a tantalizing thought … but you may still want to hold off on doing so for a while. Why? We have said this before, and we will say this time and time again — “50 Shades of Grey” is not casting “The Vampire Diaries” star or anyone else for sure until they decide on a director and a screenwriter for the E.L. James book adaptation.
However, does that really mean that the producers are not holding meetings here and there with various actors? The video below comes from a recent “Vampire Diaries” convention, and in it Somerhalder clearly says that he is going to fly out to Los Angeles to meet with the people working on the movie. The comment is met with loud applause, and this certainly set the rumor mill going that we could be on the cusp of an announcement.
As exciting as the statement may be, let’s take a minute to take a few deep breaths. Producers for the film have since come out since this comment was made and reiterated that they are not making any casting decisions right now — and even if they are meeting with Ian, they are certainly not going to disclose any details about it out of fairness for all of the other actors who could end up trying out for the part. It’s hard to even speculate on what this meeting will consist of, but it may be a good way for the producers to find out some more information on Ian to inform the director and the screenwriter down the road once they are hired. Just don’t expect an announcement here for some time.
We’ve said this before about some of the other “50 Shades of Grey” rumors revolving around Matt Bomer, but there is likely going to be a major roadblock in getting any TV star to land this part, mostly because there is not that much space in their schedule. If Ian did somehow get the lead role, we don’t know if he could start filming until April of next year.
What do you think of Ian’s comment, and do you take this as a positive sign that something could happen for him down the road? To check out some more news on the show via Paul Wesley, be sure and read the story here.
