Mrs. Carter: Did you see this coming?
We knew that there were going to be some shocking moments during pop superstar Rihanna’s interview on “Oprah’s Next Chapter” Sunday night, mostly because Oprah Winfrey has a knack to get celebrities to open up about topics that they would otherwise stay away from. In the case of Rihanna, that subject was none other than her past relationship with Chris Brown. Their history is well-documented, in particular the 2009 arrest for domestic violence that has caused Brown to be transformed into a pariah by many who follow the music industry. Both parties have since had success since this point in their careers, but neither one of them is able to do much without the questions coming up.
We knew that there were signs still that feelings were present between Rihanna and Chris Brown, but what we did not expect was to hear the “Don’t Stop the Music” singer act to Oprah as though there will be no one ever in her life that she can love the way that she loved Chris:
“I think he was the love of my life … He was the first love and I see that he loved me the same way. We were very young and very spontaneous. We ran free. We ran wild. We were falling in love going in at a really rapid pace and we forgot about ourselves as individuals.”
Rihanna added that she does still love Chris despite everything that the two have gone through, and that she sees reminders of him and their relationship just about everywhere that she goes. Is this a healthy way for her to act? While we could sit here and say “no,” we also haven’t been in her position — and what may seem dangerous to us my be normal to her.
