Ryan Murphy has just released another brand-new teaser for the second season of “American Horror Story,” and this visit to the “Asylum” is just as strange as the first one — and as a matter of fact, it may even be stranger.
It’s hard to really even understand what is happening here. Basically, we see a nun hang up a blue coat on a stark white wall — and then she looks at the camera and has a face white enough to be a ghost. From the standpoint or art direction and makeup, it is a pretty brilliant teaser — and it’s something worth getting excited about. We want to know what is going to happen here, and whether or not there is any purpose to the imagery we are seeing.
However, the problem with this trailer compared to the first one is that it lacks the same sort of scare power — this is a horror show, and it is good to remind us of that in some way beyond just some creepy person and a nun with a ghostly face. We did end up watching this promo multiple times (which is something that executive producer Ryan Murphy and the producers probably want), but the issue in doing so was that we were only doing it to see if there was something we had missed the first time around that was supposed to be scary.
Our criticism here aside, we’re not going to let anything that is omitted here somehow get in the way of what looks to be a pretty fascinating season. Murphy has assembled and eclectic and exciting cast, and we like the idea of the show getting to tell another 13-episode story with a definite beginning, middle, and end.
