“The Office” is getting set to premiere its ninth season on September 20, and it can be best described as a year of transition. While in some ways the show is going to return to a back-to-basics approach when it comes to life in Scranton, we also have some new characters entering Dunder-Mifflin, some folks leaving (see: Kelly Kapoor), and a stage that is going to be set for the upcoming spin-off show featuring Rainn Wilson’s character of Dwight Shrute.
With that latter note in mind, we are now a step closer to finding out more about the show tentatively called “The Farm” — Majandra Delfino has been cast to play Dwight’s sister! Over the show’s run, we really have not had that much of an opportunity to get to know much about Dwight’s family life outside of his cousin Mose, and the irony here is that the Mose character is actually played by the showrunner of “Parks and Recreation” — and he is going to be far too busy to make frequent appearances here. Delfino’s character is named Fannie Shrute, and she is in many ways the wild child of the family — she fled the group and moved to Boston early in her adult life, but is now back with the beets (which is apparently also going to double as a bed and breakfast) divorced and with a child.
The Venezuelan actress’ most recent credits include a run on the short-lived ABC Family show “State of Georgia,” and before that she was a series regular for multiple seasons of “Roswell.” It is certainly going to be interesting to see what a “normal Shrute” has to say about Dwight, and given that she is going to be the female lead on this new show, we better get ready to see a lot of her.
What do you think of this casting, or are you so far removed from “The Office” at this point to even care? To check out some news about an old face that is going to be turning up in Scranton at some point this coming season, be sure and click on the story here.
