The latest “American Idol” judging rumors have come online — and if some of these do end up coming to fruition, it would mean that our new judging panel would be completely and totally stuffed with stars.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the following is the panel that executives with Fox along with Fremantle Media (who produces the show) would like to have on board for season 12:
Mariah Carey – She is already signed on, so you can go ahead and chalk this one up as a done deal.
A country star – At the moment, Keith Urban is apparently the leading candidate — and if they could get Nicole Kidman in the audience, doesn’t this make perfect sense? We also know that producers have talked with Brad Paisley, who is on tour with season 10 champ Scotty McCreery.
A Latin star – Enrique Iglesias is at the moment the leading candidate here, and he can certainly find out plenty of information about the show via his touring partner Jennifer Lopez.
Nicki Minaj – This is where things get interesting. Nicki is perfect for what the show wants in many ways — she is young, enthusiastic, and would attract an urban crowd that Fox has strayed from in recent years. (We’re not sure any of the other choices appeal to either urban or young audiences.) However, there is a major issue in that Minaj has a big endorsement deal with Pepsi — who is the sponsor for “The X Factor” while Coca-Cola is the sponsor here. Folks in the soda biz (at least on the Coke side) are none too pleased about the idea of having a spokesperson for their rival brand front and center sitting in front of one of their trademark red cups during the live shows. Then again, this could be overcome if the show really wants Nicki — after all, they kept Jennifer Lopez despite her being a spokesperson for Fiat. (Ford is a sponsor for the show, as well.)
If this is in fact the panel the show opts to go with, what do you think — and are you disappointed that names such as Pharrell, Adam Lambert, and Nick Jonas would not be making the cut? To check out some more news pertaining to Adam, check out our story here.
