This is turning out to be quite the day for “Game of Thrones” season 3 scoop! Not long after we posted some scoop pertaining to Joe Dempsie, we now have some of the biggest news of all when it comes to a character that just about every fan has been waiting for.
According to Entertainment Weekly, “Rome” alum Cirian Hinds has been booked to play the role of Mance Rayder, the leader of the Wildings and King Beyond the Wall that Jon Snow is going to come into contact with throughout multiple episodes of season 3. This was a role that was surely among the most coveted of the entire season, even though it does carry with it the challenge of having to film for several months in Iceland and brave cold temperatures, long periods of darkness, and high winds.
There have been rumors surrounding Rayder’s casting for months now, and he is one of the last major characters to be cast for the new season. The show has already been shooting for several weeks now in Northern Ireland — Iceland and Morocco are just two other countries that are going to be visited in the coming months as they prepare for the show’s launch March 31 of next year. The show is once again nominated for a plethora of Emmy Awards this year, including the prestigious Outstanding Drama Series.
