‘Game of Thrones’ season 3: Joe Dempsie talks filming, show experience

Production is under way for “Game of Thrones” season 3, and we now at least know how long the filming period is going to last for one of the characters who saw some of his story take pace alongside Aria Stark earlier this year.

In a new interview with Wonderland Magazine, former “Skins” actor Joe Dempsie — who you may better know for his role of Gendry — had the following to say about just how long he is going to be working on the show this year:

“Filming Game Of Thrones is going to keep me occupied until late October. It’s been a good year all in all and I just want to keep on working.”

While his storyline may still be by and large under wraps (at least to those who have yet to read the George R.R. Martin books), Dempsie did add the following message about how he originally tried out for the part, and how he prepared for some of the physically-demanding aspects of it:

“I auditioned for a couple of roles before landing the part of Gendry. My character could be the heir to the throne and he just doesn’t know about it. There are people out to get him. I hadn’t heard of any of the books before, but I mentioned to a friend that i was up for a part and he could’t believe it. He’s a massive fantasy fan. At the time I had none of the physical attributes that was required for the role so I hit the gym and dyed my hair. Unfortunately though, I’m still a bit short.”

Sadly, we are still going to be waiting a while before we end up seeing more of Dempsie on the show itself again. Season 3 of “Game of Thrones” does not premiere until March 31 of next year, but HBO is generally kind enough to share some videos and sneak peeks while we wait. (Let’s hope it continues this time around.)
