We heard several weeks ago about a new character turning up on “The Vampire Diaries” season 4 known as Professor Shane, and we now know just who is going to be stepping into this role — along with some more details about who they really are.
According to TV Guide, David Alpay of “The Borgias” has been cast in this role, and it is now known that Shane is a well-spoken believer of the occult who has ties not just to Bonnie but to the entire Bennett family. Is he a warlock himself? That much is unclear, but he does look to be a key component of Bonnie’s storyline this coming season. Last May, there were some suggestions that Kat Graham’s character was starting to make a move towards the dark side with Esther possessing her and forcing her to transform Alaric into some sort of super-vampire — and while we don’t personally know that she is going to continue a transformation into something evil, it would be a bit more exciting than just watching her react in some sort of rational way to her best friend Elena becoming the very thing that she hates in a vampire.
We don’t know yet when Alpay is going to make his first appearance on the show, but given the time of this casting we would say that he will likely turn up within the first few installments of the season. “The Vampire Diaries” returns on Thursday, October 11 — and while this is a later start for the show than in seasons past, it should enable the show to have more new episodes consecutively without as many long layoffs.
