‘Oprah’s Next Chapter’: Rihanna opens up about Chris Brown assault

Mrs. Carter: This is going to be a rough special to watch.

On Sunday night, Oprah Winfrey is sitting down with pop superstar Rihanna for one of her most controversial editions of “Oprah’s Next Chapter” to date, as she opens up in a rare interview about her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown’s arrest back in 2009 after assaulting her in the days leading up to the Grammy Awards. This arrest has forever changed the careers of both artists, and neither has been able to escape questions about the incident along with their surprising behavior since.

In speaking to Oprah, Rihanna even had a surprising answer when asked what her reaction was to the aftermath of Brown’s arrest:

“As angry as I was, as angry and hurt and betrayed, I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help and who’s going to help him? … Nobody’s going to say he needs help. Everybody’s going to say he’s a monster without looking at the source, and I was more concerned about him.”

While both pop stars have a tendency to be polarizing, they have each been successful in the music business in the years since. Both have had album that sold hundreds of thousands of records, and they each have also received awards from a number of shows on ABC, BET, and MTV. The music community remains divided, however, it is hard to see that ever changing in the future.

You can check out a sneak peek of the interview below, and we have the following question to ask — are you more surprised that Rihanna is actually talking about Brown, or that she is speaking about him in the manner in which she is? If you want to check out some more of the latest news when it comes to Oprah, be sure and read the story over here.
