Ratings: ‘Big Brother 14’ rises; ‘Oh Sit!’ has decent premiere for The CW

All in all, Wednesday night proved to be a pretty good one for summer TV as most of the shows fared pretty well — especially since some of them have been off for a few weeks thanks to the Summer Olympics.

Let’s start, though, with the consistent warrior that is “Big Brother.” Despite Wednesday’s episode (Zingbot excluded) being one of the dullest this season, the show set a new Wednesday high this season with a 2.1 rating. This drew it near “America’s Got Talent” (2.2) for the largest number on the night, and it should give CBS hope that life without Janelle Pierzina in the house will be okay. (For those of you wanting a live feed update, there’s not much happening yet outside of Shane and Joe quizzing each other over events in the house.)

Elsewhere, “So You Think You Can Dance” managed to hold on to the 1.7 rating that it had a few weeks ago for its last new episode, but we are still pointing our finger at Kevin Reilly and Fox by getting rid of the results show and effective gutting this show. This weekly format just isn’t working for us, and we don’t know enough about the contestants to really care if they stay or if they go.

Finally, we will at least give some minor applause to The CW for their premiere of “Oh Sit!” — a show that sounded incredibly dumb on paper, but is actually some silly fun with musical chairs. The 0.5 rating is bad by most other standards on the network, but this is the best rating that they have had pretty much all summer here. (Plus, there was over a million viewers.)
