If you have been following Ryan Murphy on Twitter as of late, then you already know one thing that may make some “Glee” shippers out there shake in their boots a little bit — there is an episode coming up this season entitled “The Break-Up,” and it will cause problems for several couples who are on the show.
We don’t know at this time just who is going to break up, but in a new interview with TVLine executive producer Brad Falchuk does tease that at least one relationship is going to meet its end during the hour (which will not be one of the first two episodes of the season):
“All of the core relationships are tested … I’m not going to say who breaks up and who doesn’t, but they all — Santana/Brittany, Kurt/Blaine, Will/Emma, Rachel/Finn — get kicked in the nuts. And it’s all about how do they recover — and can they recover? And some don’t. Absolutely some don’t. Of those couples, not all of them are going to make it. It’s like Titanic.”
Falchuk also says that relationships are actually not going to be as much of a focus this year as they have been in the past, and that much of what we are going to see instead is some of these graduated characters discovering themselves in the real world. He is right in saying that while long-distance relationships are tough, they are feasible — but if you throw into the equation that one of the people involved is still in high school and the other is not, it makes things all the more difficult. We therefore think Will and Emma are going to ultimately be fine, and Rachel and Finn have a shot — it is the other two relationships that we are the most worried about.
