‘Gene Simmons Family Jewels’ canceled by A&E after seven seasons

Gene Simmons has been rocking out on A&E for seven years — but like with another one of the network’s long-running series in “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” all good things must come to an end.

In a statement per The Hollywood Reporter, the network has announced that “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” has been canceled:

“For seven great seasons, Gene, Shannon, Nick and Sophie have been part of the A&E family, and we could not be more proud of the unparalleled run of Gene Simmons Family Jewels … On behalf of everyone at A&E, we’d like to thank the production team at Thinkfactory Media, Gene and his amazing family for their partnership, collaboration and for opening up their lives, warts-and-all, to us throughout the years.”

Is this the last that we are going to see of Simmons’ family on TV? Far from it. Gene is such a celebrity that he will always be involved in entertainment, and there are multiple witnesses who claim that his daughter Sophie auditioned for “The X Factor” earlier this season. We don’t know whether or not she ended up making it past the first round, but she did clearly make an impression upon he people in attendance — and given her background, we’re not sure that she would have auditioned if she was completely devoid of talent.

A&E has been in a process of reinvent itself and its brand in recent years. “Duck Dynasty” has now become one of its go-to reality programs, while in terms of scripted fare there is a good slate that includes the likes of “Longmire” and “The Glades.”

Are you sad to see Simmons’ show gone from the air, or did you even realize that it is still on? We want to hear some of your thoughts with a comment below!
