For our second edition of “American Idol” notes Wednesday, we have a milestone to share — and with that, we’re going to kick off with some Phillip Phillips news before turning to some videos via the season 11 top 10 and Carrie Underwood.
Phillip goes Platinum – When it was announced that Phillip’s coronation song “Home” was going Gold (meaning that it has sold 500,000 copies), we expected it to be a pretty long wait before it made it to the next level of distinction. However, it managed to actually reach Certified Platinum status even faster.
Boosted largely by the Summer Olympics coverage on NBC, the sold sold over 200,000 copies for the second straight week during this sales frame, and was down only slightly from the week before. This is not bad considering where “Home” got the vast majority of its play on TV, and it also guarantees that he is not going to fall as hard on the Billboard Hot 100 this week as many predicted.
Jessica Sanchez and the top ten talk auditions -Do you want to know why Phillip, Jessica, and the rest of the top ten decided to give auditioning for this show a try? If so, you can check it out in the video below. It’s mostly lighthearted fare used to inspire future generations to try out. After all, online auditions are currently happening, as is the small town bus tour that is going through the midwest and other regions not often close to actual auditions.
Carrie visits “Today” – Finally, we’re going to wrap things up with a visit to “The Today Show” courtesy of one Carrie Underwood. Following a trip to her husband’s native Canada, she returned to the United States by traveling to New York City, speaking to Matt Lauer, and performing a number of her hit songs.
The video below features not only a short interview, but also a performance of the title track of her new album “Blown Away” — one of the best songs that she has produced to date.
