‘American Idol’ notes: Nick Jonas, Adam Lambert, Phillip Phillips

We have a fun story to share regarding Adam Lambert in our Wednesday morning edition of “American Idol” notes, but we are going to kick things off first and foremost with the continued debate as to who is going to be judging the show during the upcoming twelfth season.

Nick Jonas gets Joe’s endorsement – Despite being the youngest member of the Jonas Brothers (the group, not the family), Nick has been the one targeted by producers in order to take a judges’ chair potentially once occupied by Steven Tyler this coming season. In news that should come as a surprise to pretty much no one, he also has the endorsement of his brother.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter to promote his own new singing show “The Next” (which airs on The CW Thursday), here is what Joe Jonas had to say:

“He’s a great producer, songwriter, musician, and even though we’re young, we’ve all been able to have such a great career so far. I feel like for Nick, he’d be able to bring a young approach to the show … He definitely knows what he’s talking about in the business. I think he’d probably bring the tough love occasionally and a dry sense of humor [that] I think would work well.”

There is no timetable on when the show will decide who will join Mariah Carey (and if Randy Jackson will be back), but we expect some news before the middle of next month.

Adam Lambert on Japanese TV – It’s always entertaining to see any American celebrity on Japanese TV — and it’s even more entertaining when that person is Adam Lambert. While it may take you a while to get through the two videos below, there are some pretty funny moments here — including when one of the hosts gets a little too close for comfort.

A free Phillip Phillips concert – For those of you in Atlanta, here is some good news. According to local reports, the reigning champ will be at the Centennial Olympic Park on August 31 as a part of the free Downtown Touchdown Concert. Lonestar will also be there, for those of you who want to sing “Amazed” at the top of your lungs.
