‘American Idol’ notes: Scotty McCreery, Kelly Clarkson, Jessica Sanchez

For our second “American Idol” notes of the day, we are starting things off with a viral video that is currently taking America by storm — mostly because Scotty McCreery has now joined the long line of other singers who have made headlines by falling off of stages.

Scotty’s tumble – The incident happened at around the 8:13 mark in the video below, as he was performing at a concert in New York over the weekend.  He was actually in the middle of a Travis Tritt cover when he fell, but luckily he was not hurt and was quick to jump back on the stage.

Always one to poke fun at himself, Scotty after the show took to Twitter and “blamed” a man rumored to become a judge on “American Idol” next season (in his headlining act Brad Paisley) for the incident:

“Dagum @BradPaisley pranked me again.. he narrowed up the stage on me for my last song….. #MeetTheCrowdNight #ImOk.”

Is “Duets” over? – Based on what a new story with The Hollywood Reporter featuring Kelly Clarkson says, it looks like ABC’s competition series “Duets” is not going to see the light of day for another year — though is anyone really surprised due to the ratings?

It’s not in the interview itself, but the story subtly mentions that “Duets” will not have a second season — but the good news is that Kelly still stays in contact with the two young singers she mentored in Jordan Meredith and Jason Farol, and is helping them fight some channels in the music industry that they can succeed in.

Jessica Sanchez’s new cause – Considering that she is a teenager in the age of texting, we can’t think of a better spokesperson to encourage people to not text while driving than Jessica. In a post on Twitter, the reigning runner-up shared a link where people can sign a pledge promising to stay safe behind the wheel by putting down the phone. Even though people still have to remember that they signed this pledge since they’re not going to be watched over it, it’s still a small step in the right direction to avoid tragedies.
